Hichem Khalfa

It was in January 2014 that the Hichem Khalfa 5tet was born. This band is the result of a collaboration with Montreal scene well-known musicians : Al McLean (Saxophone), Jerome Beaulieu (Piano), Alex Bellegarde (Bass) and Martin Auguste (drums). After the first show in Montreal at Upstairs jazz club, the 5tet signed with The 270 Sessions.

Hichem Khalfa was born in France (Argenteuil, Val d’Oise). He started learning the trumpet at the age of 7 with Antony Daniel at the Conservatoire de musique d’Argenteuil. In his 15 he met teachers Pierre Badel and Jean-Bernard Beauchamp (JB), with whom he studied for several years.

After he obtained a Diploma of Musical Studies in 2009, he left France to continue learning classical trumpet at Haute Ecole de musique de Geneve in Switzerland, under the instruction of Gerard Metrailler (assistant principal at Orchestre de la Suisse Romande). After two years in Switzerland, Hichem went to study at McGill University.

Beside his studies, Hichem plays in different musical formations, ranging from symphonic orchestras to jazz or electro, and has played in many different countries around the world: France, Switzerland (Geneva, Paleo Festival, Festineuch, Lausanne, Sion etc..) China , Mexico (Cervantino festival), toured Europe with Blitz the Ambassador, as well as European and Canadian tours with The National Fanfare of Kadebostany. Since arriving in Montreal in 2012, he has played with local bands such as Kalmunity and Nomadic Massive.
