Originally from France, the pianist Simon Denizart came to Montreal in 2011 to study jazz performance at Univerity de Montreal with Luc Beaugrand. In University, he met Jeanne Corpataux (bass) and Simon Bellmare (drums), both originally from Sherbrooke and Drummondville.
The three quickly discovered a special musical chemistry and began to interpret music of trios they admired like Esbjorn Svensson Trio, Avishai Cohen, Tigran Hamasyan and Keith Jarrett. Developing their sound around these influences, they started to work on original compositions of the pianist and bandleader, Simon Denizart.
The trio was picked up by the new talent contest at the 2014 Festival de Rimouski and also won the audience prize. After winning this prize, the trio went on a tour of about twenty dates in Quebec (Gaspésie, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Saguenay, Estrie…), inspiring effusive positive responses from the audiences.
Drawing influence from European jazz and world music , SD3 music is tender and energetic, sensitively weaving subtle but accessible melodies through interesting, world-influenced grooves.
